This robotic research project, conducted whilst working at Jali Ltd., tested robotic methods to fold metal sheets into a double curved surface, using a parametric script that would output Kuka code. The script allows the choice of any curve to fold against. The physical setup contained a Kuka Kr100 on a 7M rail and a custom made vacuum mold and custom made tooltip. Initial research focussed on generating the script and robotic control, using a MDF tool tip to simply bend the metal. This tool did not try to compress or stretch the metal based on its fold. Later developments included the use of a pneumatic tool, which was developed in collaboration with staff at Jali.
